Urinary tract infection is a very serious health problem that is affecting lots of people in the world. They are considered as the second most critical infections of the body. women are mostly targeted by this infection. Urinary tract infections in men are not very common as compared to men but if they occur, they may take the severe shape.

There are ureters, kidneys, bladder, and urethra in the urinary system. Kidneys play a very important role in this system. These are purplish brown organs of the body that are situated towards the back, below the ribs. The main function of kidneys is to remove wastes and excess liquid from blood in the form of urine and maintain a stable and consistent balance of salts and other substances in the blood. it also produce that hormone which helps the formation of red blood cells.

There are narrow tubes that are called ureters which carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Bladder is a sack shape organ that is situated in the lower abdomen. Urine is first stored in the bladder and then emptied through urethra. Bladder is mostly free of viruses, bacteria, and fungi but it does contain salts, fluids, and waste products. There are chances of an infection when a tiny organism, such as bacteria that comes from the digestive tract, touches the urethra opening and starts to multiply. The urethra is a tube that is responsible for carrying urine from the bladder out of the body.

When bacteria multiply, there are chances of an infection. If urinary tract infection is not treated quickly then bacteria may travel further towards ureters to multiply and greatly infect the kidneys. An infection of kidney is known as pyelonephritis. There are more chances of urinary tract infection in some people than others. If there is any abnormality of the urinary tract that is obstructing the flow of urine it means that it is setting the stage for a urinary tract infection. If there is an enlarged prostate gland, it can also slow down the flow of urine and raise the risk of infection.
